CRAFTSMANSHIP
BY GRACE CHEN
"Much of the traditional craftsmanship is on the verge of extinction. Its complicated and slow process is not something which the present-day generation is fond of. Instead of preserving the traditional craftsmanship merely as a historical treasure, why not make people crave for it in their daily lives? That is why the sole purpose of my designs — to build a long-lasting bridge between the traditional handicraft and modern life."
WEAVING
Borrowing elements from the traditional “Chinese knot” and continually re-inventing them in new and innovative ways, Grace Chen‘s team has developed over hundreds of thousands of weaves. What was once just a simple, “normal” knot - has become elegant, modern and powerful under the skillful hands of Grace and her team.

EMBROIDERY
Grace Chen has also innovated on the elegant and culturally rich “Suzhou embroidery”. Splitting a single thread of silk into 20 separate strands, this makes its color more light and natural – like the softness on an ink painting. Used as an embellishment on any wedding or evening gown, it creates an effect that is more refreshing, light and romantic.
THE SCULPTED HANDCRAFTED EMBELLISHMENT
The “Sculpted Vase” is a type of embroidery that creates a more voluptuous and luxurious effect. The rise and depths in its texture create a more sculpted effect.

TASSELS
One of Grace Chen’s favorite elements is the tassel. Taking its origin from Chinese calligraphy, Grace believes the essence of Chinese Art, “Chi” is something that flows throughout everything, inside and out. And tassels are the best way to express this.
